MansA Magazine — A Contemporary and Sensitive Archive of the African Worlds

How do you build a cultural magazine that gives voice to the narratives, imaginaries and creations emerging from the African worlds and their diasporas?

Élisabeth GOMIS presents MansA Magazine, a bilingual review (French / English) conceived as an editorial space devoted to the memories, identities and Afro-descendant futures, at the crossroads of art, thought and visual cultures.

Through the two movements that structure the first issue — "A House Woven of Us" and "Archaeology of the Future" — she reflects on the project's ambition: to create a contemporary and sensitive archive, one that explores how identities, memories and futures are shaped between territories, heritages and displacements.
Drawing on the legacy of La Revue du Monde Noir (1931), MansA Magazine asserts a strong visual and narrative identity, weaving together photography, fashion, literature, architecture, music, critical thought and contemporary creation. This conversation offers an opportunity to question what it means, today, to edit from the diasporas an object that is at once a magazine, an archive and a space of transmission.

Target audience: This session will be of particular interest to independent publishers, magazine makers, editors, cultural practitioners and anyone interested in African and diasporic cultures, decolonial editorial practices, and the making of independent print in a transnational context.
What to bring: Attendees are warmly invited to bring their own magazines or editorial projects if they wish to connect and exchange with us after the session. Copies of MansA Magazine will be available on site.
