FOOD& CENSORSHIP

We cancelled our Adobe subscription a while back and kept drifting towards free and open-source tools. So when Food& Censorship started forming, we skipped InDesign entirely. Web tech (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) is our daily business, so we built our own tool instead: all the content sits as files and folders on one side, a website displays it on the other, and the browser's "print" turns it into a printable PDF.

A magazine on censorship, made and given away open-source (as much as we can, out of respect for the artists). That thought intrigued us.

In the workshop we'll go through the tool, how it works, and why turning a website into a printed object is quite cool. It all runs in the browser (well, you do need the browser), no design software. A bit of comfort with Markdown, HTML and CSS helps, but you don't need to be a developer. The learning curve is steep, no worries, just get started.
