Code of Conduct
At Indiecon, we aim to foster a diverse and peaceful publishing community founded on mutual respect, kindness, and celebrating our plurality. To make this vision come to life, this Code of Conduct defines some rules about how we want to interact and communicate with each other.
Guidelines like this help to facilitate and create a space during our time together that is braver and safer. We recognize different people are subject to different forms of discrimination, therefore, fostering safer spaces is of special importance to us. To achieve this, we need your help because spaces are the sum of their contributors: from organizers to exhibitors to visitors.
Please respect personal boundaries and act according to the consent principle: Only yes means yes! No always means no!
We do not tolerate discriminatory behavior of any kind, including verbal or physical violence; sexism and gender-based discrimination; racism e.g. based on religion, culture, or nationality; antisemitism e.g. based on religion, culture, or nationality; discrimination of LGBTQIA+ individuals; nationalism; classism; and ableism.
Outward appearance says nothing about a person's gender identity. You are welcome to ask what pronouns people use to ensure you know how to refer to them.
Please, do not comment on people’s appearance or self-expression.
We ask you to familiarize yourselves with the concept of cultural appropriation and refrain from using corresponding attributes.
Violations of these rules will result in exclusion from the event.
What can you do if you observe or experience an uncomfortable situation?
If you experience an uncomfortable situation, please, get in contact with our Indiecon team. There will be a contact person active during the opening hours of the festival that can be reached via the info counter at all times.
There also is a retreat area located in the Oberhafen Garden. Our team is happy to take you there. There, you can withdraw alone or talk to us – we will take the desired steps to further deal with the situation together. We cannot provide any kind of professional psychological care, but our team will be as supportive as possible.
All reports will be confidential and treated seriously. No decisions on how to respond to an incident will be made without the affected person’s consent. The definition of power belongs to the affected person only! They define for themselves when and what form of violence they have experienced.
We recognise that we may have missed something. We welcome feedback as it helps us learn from our mistakes.
Thank you for your support and participation.
Indiecon is a platform for diverse forms of publishing. Therefore, we are not here to check the magazine's content or censor them.
