A growing and divergent movement of independent publishing is happening in Asia. It goes against the grain, and is able to achieve what mainstream publishing cannot – offering offbeat perspectives, pushing boundaries of form, and developing deeper connections with readers. They do not only exist in their own bubbles. Independent publications are deeply rooted in their context. Many of the works, in fact, are a reaction to society.
