Maker Space Workshop - Line/Break

Line/Break is an exploration of the relationship between your choices on the page & their landings on the hearts, minds & mouths of readers. In a condenced version from its original iteration in Berlin, participants at Indiecon 2025 will be guided through the various functions at the disposal of poets when considering how a piece sits on a page, and specifically,

where the poet chooses to stop you-

r attention, and encourage you to think.

You'll learn about common practices and not only analyze, but actively rework and reimagine select pieces of poetry to help you apply these tactics to your own work. All participants are encouraged to bring at least one poem of theirs that they are interested in preparing for a page -- whether on web or in print -- which we will work on collaboratively with the group.

About the facilitator: M.P. Brooks (he/they) is an event producer, musician and poet grown in Chicago. Only having shared this work publicly once arriving to Berlin in 2021, Brooks now hosts a monthly open mic in Kiez Wedding and is the founder of FLORETS: A Magazine for Young Poetics releasing annual volumes to uplift previously unpublished writers. They specialize in abstract works, "doting on the desire of the waxing poetic, inviting the reader on a quest of geometry and tracing the symmetric mirroring of paths taken." (Kat Ripea, Co-Founder, FLORETS).
